The concert No. 1 of Debut 25th Anniversary series is subtitled “Oto no Tabi (Journey of Sound).”
This is the departure for the 2-year project, so I wanted to walk again with Mozart and Schubert who have been with me from my childhood. Mozart himself led a life filled with travels, and Schubert is continuing an endless journey within myself. I wonder where they take me to show me what, this time.
Bartók also traveled extensively within Hungary to devote himself in collecting and studying various folk music. This strong, subtle, yet beautiful piece with sense of soil, wind, and fire attracts me very much recently.
And small pieces by Webern seem to lead us into consciousness while following the sound.
This program includes 2 of the most challenging Duo pieces for the pianist, and may test our limits and those of the audience.

    To the infinite world..

The end of a journey is another beginning.

The second concert on May 10th is in the Shoin. I chose more recent unaccompanied pieces in-between Bach’s. Since there is a connection between Partita No. 3 by Bach and Sonata No.2 by Ysaÿe, I would like to play them in succession. I am wondering how Bach sounds in the season of fresh greenery with blooming flowers, while feeling winds coming through the beautiful garden of Myoo-In. I am praying for fine whether on that day.

Perhaps once in a lifetime, I am presenting you such a special concert. I will perform the entire 6 unaccompanied sonata and partitas +α at on 9th and 10th of May at Myoo-In, (Fukuyama City.) The concert on 9th is in the Main Hall which is a National Treasure of Japan. Imagining a performance guarded by the principal deity in the Main Hall, which was built in Kamakura Period, has a sobering effect on me.

I love Mr. Iwashiro’s music which is warm and makes me feel wrapped around with something large and tender while playing.
‘Chi to Hone’ was my first experience of film music and surprised me a little to find out exactly how film music was recorded.
During the session for ‘Chi to Hone’ Iwashiro-san said to everyone
“Even though I am a very happy person, please imagine something saddest and most cruel in your life.”
Maybe it was unusual for him to write a piece in minor key.
He was a classmate at the university and like a spirit of energy briskly walking through Ueno Park with coat flying. My impression of him remains the same till now.
After ‘Chi to Hone’ Iwashiro-san has broadened his world with continuous big works, and that makes me very happy and proud.
The Iwashiro World played by 3 violinists should be a fantastic time.

This year’s SPRING FESTIVAL IN TOKYO. I look forward to this Chamber Orchestra every time, and this year Schönberg’s "Verklärte Nacht" is featured. I recall being impressed by the maturity of this piece and further mesmerized by Dehmel’s poem, but Schönberg was only 25 when he wrote it. The string orchestra version should sound much richer than the string sextet version. Unfortunately we cannot see the moon after the concert because the calendar shows it will be new moon.
I will have another opportunity to play it in a string sextet. Details later.
